Rescheduling
In order to reschedule games, all coaches should follow the guidance found here.
Additionally, please try to make up games in the order they were postponed and not wait until the last 2 weeks of the season as availability is limited.
Who Schedules Games?
The Loudoun County Softball Alliance schedules AGSL House and Middle School games.
Who Determines if the Field is Playable?
Teams are required to play the schedule they have been provided by the Alliance unless it is determined that the field is not playable by the either the county (see the field closure website here: https://www.loudoun.gov/fieldstatus), Leesburg (for the field status of Freedom Park see Leesburg’s field closure website here: https://www.leesburgva.gov/departments/parks-recreation/town-parks/athletic-fields-rainout-line), or by the umpire at game time if the game is umpired (this decision is normally reached after consultation with the head coaches).
If the game is not umpired (e.g., games involving 6U teams), the head coaches may cancel the game if both coaches agree that the field is not playable, even if the county or the town of Leesburg has not closed the field.
Can Head Coaches Cancel Games?
It depends.
If the game is not umpired (e.g., games involving 6U teams), the head coaches may cancel the game if both coaches agree that the field is not playable, even if the county has not closed the field.
If the game is umpired, the decision to cancel the game is made by the county or the town of Leesburg (due to poor field conditions) or the umpire at game time (in consultation with the head coaches).
Can Games Be Rescheduled for Reasons other than Field Conditions?
Games are only rescheduled due to field issues. If a team is having difficulty fielding enough players, teams are allowed to use guest players and borrow players from the opposing team to avoid a forfeit.
Rules concerning the use of guest players can be found on the AGSL web site by accessing the Forms & Documents page at https://www.agsl.org/formsdocs and clicking on the applicable age group rules.
Can Games Be Cancelled and Rescheduled Early in Anticipation of Bad Weather?
The AGSL Board of Directors (not the coaches) may cancel and reschedule games in anticipation of bad weather, but this is not done often due to contractual relationships with our umpires and the county. Also, weather forecasts sometimes prove to be inaccurate. Player safety is always the deciding factor when the AGSL Board of Directors determines if games should be cancelled in anticipation of bad weather.
As as scheduler, how do I submit a rescheduled game?
After the date, field and time have been set by the coaches, follow the steps found here. These steps must be completed by the scheduler of the new game’s allocated field.
