Volunteers Needed for AGSL Board

Parents,

The annual AGSL membership meeting was held, June 12th, 7:30 PM at the Woods Recreation Center located at 44020 Louisa Drive in Ashburn Village.

AGSL still has 2 vacant positions on the Board.  We need people to agree to take on the responsibility to support this organization in a leadership role. Your support will allow us to continue offering the highest level of quality of girl’s youth softball in our Ashburn neighborhoods. AGSL is a leader in Loudoun County because of the difference in our leadership and volunteers who provide instruction, introduction to athletic and social skills development, as well as demonstrating standards of excellence while maintaining the kind of example our daughters deserve as they develop into young ladies.

It is time for you to step up and make a commitment in order for AGSL to continue to grow and move forward.

Thank you to those who continue to support AGSL leadership on the Board of Directors.

Thank you to those who have committed to support the responsibilities of a Board position for the coming year.

Thank you to the coaches and assistant coaches who make it possible for the girls to have a team to play on.

Thank you to the parents who have stepped up to help in the concession stand with your team assigned volunteer blocks, but more is needed of you.

For those of you who have relied on the rest of us to support what you and your girls enjoy in your relationship with this league, it is time for you to make a difference and make a commitment to accept some of the responsibility.

Along with the opportunities below, we need a core team of volunteers to support the concession stand through the summer with our commitment to support the tournaments scheduled by the county. We will continue to assign team blocks of volunteer times during our spring and fall seasons to support the snack shack.

You need to volunteer and make a difference, RIGHT NOW!

If you are interested please contact the acting AGSL President and she will forward the position description or league information requested: Ronna Rush

AGSL June 12, 2008 membership meeting minutes:

In summary, the membership attending  this meeting voted on the slate of volunteers noted in the attachment. along with Denise Pugh who stepped up to fill the Secretary position.  The Director of Players and Coaches is OPEN. I have agreed to continue to represent the Board as President with the expectation of a Parent or Coach affiliated with AGSL coming forward.  Please give this thoughtful consideration.

The current board will support the needs of the league and will enjoy the opportunity so long as we have your support with time and assistance to continue to offer recreational and tournament softball to our Ashburn daughters.

Along with the Agenda Item of selecting a new Board of Directors for the 2008-2009 year we had discussion from the floor regarding the house league selection process.

The proposed changes to Rule #6, requiring each girls to be evaluated and selected each spring was overturned and will remain as stated in our current by-laws by the members present at the special membership meeting January 30, 2008.

There was discussion in the 8U and 10U teams pitching with machines and coach pitch. This will be looked and further in our fall instructional season and recommendations from coaches solicited.

16U Gold Shooting Stars Shine Bright reaching out and going beyond!

In the true spirit of reaching out to make a difference in the community, the AGSL Shooting Stars 16U Gold team presented the “Champions for Children Foundation” with a check for $500 on the team’s behalf.   The Shooting Stars originally received the $500 as a team sponsorship from the Vienna Rotary.   Shooting Stars Coach Rich Blessing had this to say about the donation: "Our team supports the Washington Glory in their non-profit community outreach project called: Champions for Children Foundation.  We agreed that it would be wonderful for the girls to “pay it forward” so to speak and to pass this generosity on to other less fortunate folks”.

AGSL was inspired and has gotten involved as well by donating our used, no longer needed equipment to the foundation.  We encourage the entire community to join the Shooting Stars and AGSL in this worthy effort.  We agree with the Shooting Stars, supporting this charity is a great idea.   Check around the garage, check with friends and neighbors for used but still serviceable softball equipment.   Your donations can be dropped off at the Diamond Elite Training facility located at 21598 Atlantic Blvd, Suite 120, Dulles VA.

Let’s keep on giving.

Thank you Stars for getting involved and making a difference!
